Kastamonu Museum, which displays the history and cultural heritage of Kastamonu, welcomes its visitors in a historical building built in 1910. In addition to various works from the Hittite, Phrygian, Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine periods, the museum also includes works from the Candaroğulları Principality and the Ottoman period. In a small section, various items and tools used by President Gazi Mustafa Kemal during his Kastamonu trip in 1925 are exhibited together. The museum, which consists of archaeology and ethnography sections, exhibits important works from the region's thousands of years of history. In the archaeology section of the museum, sculptures, sarcophagi, ceramics and coins from the Hittite, Phrygian, Roman and Byzantine periods obtained from excavations carried out in Kastamonu and its surroundings can be seen. In the ethnography section, traditional Kastamonu clothes, hand-woven carpets, copper embroidery, wooden artwork and daily life items from the Ottoman and Republican periods are exhibited. There is also a special collection introducing Kastamonu's famous wood carving tradition. The museum is open every day of the week between 08:30 and 17:30.
